In 1970, Elke Sommer made her stage debut in the lead role of the musical Irma La Douce; opening night was in Flint, Michigan, followed by a tour through the entire United States.
The critics showered the stage novice with praise and only five years later, Elke Sommer was honored for her work in Born Yesterday with one of the most prestigious American theater awards, the Joseph Jefferson Award.
Ever since, Elke Sommer has appeared regularly in a variety of stage productions, not just in the United States but also in Canada, Great Britain, and first and foremost in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In some instances, she also directed and produced the plays.
