  Joseph Jefferson Award (USA) 1975

The Joseph Jefferson Awards (also known as The Jeff Awards) are a tribute to Joseph “Joe” Jefferson (February 20, 1829 – April 23, 1905) who is often credited as the greatest American comedian of all time. Founded in 1968, the awards are given annually to acknowledge excellence in theater and they are deemed one of the most prestigious forms of recognition in the industry.

In 1975, Elke Sommer worked under the direction of Leland Ball at the Drury Lane Theatre in Chicago where she played the lead role in Garson Kanin's BORN YESTERDAY. Her portrayal of Billy Dawn earned her the Joseph Jefferson Award.
